Problem

Aortic dissection is a rare yet catastrophic cardiovascular disease with high mortality and morbidity. It involves a tear in the aorta’s inner layer, which can lead to life-threatening internal bleeding. Current treatment options, including open repair and endovascular stents, are invasive, have low eligibility (only 13% of patients qualify for minimally invasive techniques), and present unacceptably high complication and reintervention rates. In particular, Type B AD (TBAD) patients often receive conservative medical therapy despite poor outcomes due to the limitations of existing devices and technologies.

Solution

Aortyx is developing a new generation of biomimetic and bioresorbable endovascular patches that treat aortic dissections more naturally and effectively. Their patented patch adheres to the aortic wall using a proprietary adhesive and promotes tissue regeneration by mimicking the aorta’s mechanical properties. The solution features a custom delivery system that ensures precise deployment and strong fixation, eliminating the need for large landing zones (as with stents). Aortyx’s patch is absorbed over time, restoring the aorta’s functionality and avoiding the need for more invasive interventions.
